Job Description
Key Accountabilities - Safely operates specialized towing and recovery equipment to move vehicles and equipment exceeding 10,001 lbs. GVWR.
- Executes towing and recovery tasks involving commercial vehicles, well-servicing rigs, and ancillary equipment, ensuring proper techniques and equipment use.
- Complies with all federal, state, and local transportation laws, weight restrictions, and company policies.
- Follows all safety protocols during towing, recovery, and transportation activities; conducts thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections; and report hazards or equipment issues promptly.
- Inspects, maintains, and cares for towing vehicles and specialized equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Completes required logs, reports, inspection forms, and other documentation with accuracy and timeliness.
- Coordinates with dispatch, job site personnel, and customers to ensure efficient service, clear instructions, and safe execution of towing operations.
- Represents the company professionally while interacting with clients, providing courteous assistance during stressful or urgent situations.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education, Certificates, Licenses - High school diploma or equivalent.
- Requires a valid California Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B) and
- Tow Truck Driver Certificate issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles or temporary certificate issued by California Highway Patrol (CHP)
Experience - Minimum of two years of experience as a tow truck driver.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Critical:
- Knowledge in California Vehicle Code, DOT regulations, and company safety policies.
- Experience in proper towing and vehicle securing techniques.
- Experience safe operation of tow trucks (flatbed and wheel-lift).
- Ability to respond promptly to emergency calls and work under pressure.
- Skilled in lifting and securing heavy equipment safely.
Required:
- Basic mechanical knowledge for routine maintenance and safety checks.
- Knowledge of traffic laws and defensive driving principles.
- Ability to operate GPS and dispatch systems.
- Ability to work independently and follow established procedures.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and adhere to company policies.
- Ability to adapt to changing job requirements and weather conditions.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others as part of a team.
Desired:
- Familiarity with towing industry best practices and CHP certification process.
- Knowledge of environmental compliance standards.
Work Environment - Heavy Work- Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
- Exposed to outdoor elements such as extreme heat or cold, heavy winds, rain, or snow.
- Exposed to loud noise level elements.
- Required to drive to and access job sites, in light of day as well as in darkness, to perform work assignments. Some job site locations may be remote from the office requiring long drives to locations isolated from interaction with others and towns.
- Required to balance, bend, squat, crouch, climb, reach, grasp, stoop, kneel, push/pull and lift objects, and use apparatus to push/pull and lift heavy objects weighing 50 lbs or more.
- Subject to exposure to hazards such as but not limited to slippery or uneven surfaces; environmental/industry hazards such as chemicals, high-decibel noise from production equipment, fumes, or poor ventilation; proximity to moving objects and vehicles; potentially combustible components; hazardous off- road conditions such as dust, ice, and snow.
- May be requested to work long hours to complete job assignments.
- May work a rotating schedule, shift, and/or be on call.
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Follow all company safety policies and protocols.
- Required to perform active, physical tasks including but not limited to operating equipment and/or machinery and making adjustments and repairs.
- Required to have visual acuity to work with parts, equipment, apparatus, etc.
- Required to possess audible acuity to hear alarms in the event of emergency.

The pay range for this position in California is between $27.00 per hour and $28.00 per hour. Please note that the hourly rate information is a general guideline, and that the hourly rate will vary depending on your location.
