Job Description
What You Will Do The Climate, Ecosystems, and Environmental Science Group in the Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has an opening for a summer research intern in the analysis of environmental water stable isotope tracers. You will work as part of the Water, Atmosphere, and Vulnerabilities of the Earth System (WAVES) team analyzing observations of water isotope ratios from surface observations and satellites to help improve our understanding of Earth's water cycle variability and change. The term of the appointment is up to thirteen weeks.
What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: - Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a multi-disciplinary environment.
- Experience analyzing and visualizing environmental data in Python or R
- Research or course background in hydrology, Earth systems science, climate or atmospheric sciences, coastal processes and/or computational science.
Education/Experience : Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree and be a degree-seeking student in an accredited institution's graduate program by the time of appointment.
Must be enrolled in 6 semester credit hours (or full-time equivalent). Must currently have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent). Desired Qualifications: - Degree or major (planned or declared) in an Earth Science field.
- Experience with stable isotope ratios or environmental tracers.
- Experience with version control tools (e.g., git and github/gitlab).
- Experience with common data science packages and/or artificial intelligence/machine learning packages in R or Python.
The work location for this position will be onsite or hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. These work locations will be defined as >60% onsite presence, with offsite presence being within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
