Assistant / Associate Professor of Criminal Justice - Corrections Bemidji State University (BSU) invites qualified applicants to join our team as an Assistant/Associate Professor of Criminal Justice-Corrections . BSU’s Criminal Justice Department offers an on-campus and online BS program, as well as a minor in Criminal Justice and a Peace Officer Certificate Program. All of our classes are led by dedicated, experienced faculty who are committed to helping every student develop the knowledge, values, ethics, and standards of practice in and out of the classroom needed to become a successful leader and professional effectively serving our communities. Our rigorous program, combined with BSU’s core education framework, teaches students to think critically across disciplines. Responsibilities of the Part-Time Assistant/Associate Professor of Criminal Justice-Corrections include: Teaching a wide variety of undergraduate criminal justice classes on BSU’s Campus. Courses may include, but are not limited to Community Corrections, Principles of Criminal Justice Supervision, Criminal Justice & Society. Other courses may also be required by the department to deliver the program to its students. Teaching courses on-campus, online and hyflex modalities. Displaying a strong commitment to quality teaching and collegial relationship building. Working with other faculty members and students in curriculum development, student advising, and student placement. Contributing to interdisciplinary teaching and involvement in activities that support BSU’s Shared Fundamental Values . Minimum qualifications for this position include: Master's degree in criminal justice or a closely related field from an accredited institution. A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a probation or parole officer. A minimum of one (1) year on-campus and online teaching experience at the college level. Preferred qualifications include: Earned terminal degree or ABD candidates from a regionally accredited university in Criminal Justice or closely related field as of the starting date for the position is strongly preferred. Completion of a terminal degree is required for tenure consideration. A Juris Doctor is not considered a sufficient terminal degree in this position. Demonstrated experience working with and/or interest working with students and colleagues from multi-cultural and diverse backgrounds and using culturally responsive pedagogy and practice. Demonstrated effective teaching at the college level. Experience delivering college courses using Desire to Learn (D2L) software. Experience developing courses at the college level. Demonstrated history of community involvement. Ten (10) years of experience as a probation or parole officer. Train the Trainer certification in a recognized evidence-based practice such as thinking for a change, decision points or motivational interviewing. Demonstrated experience completing Pre-Sentence Investigations, Probation Violation Reports and/or Minnesota Pre-Trial Assessment tool, sentencing guideline worksheets and other risk/needs assessments. Experience working with a wide range of justice-involved individuals, from juveniles to adults and from misdemeanants to felony offenders. A demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism.
